About

The La Salle Learning Centre is a place where students learn how to learn.

The first La Salle Learning Centre based in Penang was established in 1984 by Brother John D’ Cruz, FSC.  Bro. John felt a need to offer an alternative methodology of learning to children unable to cope with the formal school system, many of whom were mislabeled as ‘under-achievers’, ‘slow learners’ or ‘failures’. Sadly, some drop out of school at an early age.

A fun place to be

In contrast to a typical tuition setting, the Learning Centre emphasizes the basic skills needed for self-learning:

Speaking
Listening
Reading
Writing
Understanding
Problem-solving
Counting and calculating
Drawing
Doing-observing-recording
Self-analysis & self-assessment
Group activity
Basic Computer skills

The Centre’s methodology of learning has spread to and is being applied in at least sixteen other learning centres in Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and East Malaysia. The Centre has trained a number of formators who are capable of running learning centres, and training others who are interested to run such learning centres. The individuals in this movement stay in touch through networking, common reflection sessions and an annual seminar.
